2 Day City Experience Retreat

The 2-day City Experience Retreat was designed because of a number of requests from teachers who wanted their students to have the experience of volunteering. For this to happen it is important wegive some training to the students. In the 2-day City Experience Retreat we facilitate workshops on listening, alternatives to violence, homelessness and mental illness. The Urban Walk is part of the 2-day experience. If teachers would rather do this over 3 short days rather than 2 long days, this can be arranged with our education coordinatorGemma Hayes.

Once the students have undergone the training then at 7:30pm on the Thursday evening they can work in Rough Edges for a shift of 2-3 hours (on the teacher’s discretion). Then on the Friday, students will organise/facilitate the Community Lunch we have at Rough Edges on Friday afternoons. Their tasks will include shopping, cooking, serving meals and spending time with our patrons.

The 2-day city experience will no doubt be memorable for all involved; however it is a lot of work and therefore incurs a cost of $60 /student /day. We only take small groups of 8-10.

There are a limited number of 2-day experiences we run in a year. If it is something you are interested in, it is recommended you get in early.
